Choco-Banana-Coffee Smoothie

This yummy, easy-to-make smoothie is perfect for hot summer days when you need an afternoon pickup. Healthy banana, vitamin-packed Ovaltine, and coffee ice cubes lead to the yummiest milkshake this side of July!

We all know that Pinterest is filled with incredible ideas, most of which I’ll never, ever do. I even have a board titled “Crafts I’ll Never Do” partly because I don’t have a crafty bone in my body and partly because I don’t own a glue gun. Even the ones that only require a tuna fish can and clothes pins seems too far out of my laziness to bother with. The food pins, on the other hand, I can bring myself to make. Especially something as easy as pouring leftover coffee into an ice cube tray so your iced coffees don’t get watered down. Brilliant!. So I started doing that. It wasn’t until I had a gallon size freezer bag filled with Coffee Ice Cubes that I realized, “I don’t drink iced coffee.”

On a blistering July day inspiration struck when I saw the quickly browning bananas on my counter. I now present you with with the Choco-Banana-Coffee Smoothie. One caveat, I have a super-powerful VitaMix blender, no promises this will work with a conventional blender.

IMG_1717[1]Put a couple of ripe bananas (I like to use the very ripe ones) into your blender.

IMG_1719Grab your gigantic bag of coffee ice cubes courtesy of Pinterest. Toss 6-8 (or more, depending on how much of a buzz you need) into the blender along with the bananas.

IMG_1722Add 3 heaping tablespoons of Ovaltine. What? You don’t have Ovaltine in your cupboard? Okay, okay. You can use Quik or Hershey’s Syrup in a pinch.

IMG_1723Pour in about 3 cups of milk. I use rice milk because I’m a little dairy sensitive but you can use cow’s milk, soy, almond, hemp, whatever floats your boat. I wouldn’t recommend goat’s milk though. I tried that on Honey Nut Cheerios one time and it was SO gross.

IMG_1725You should now have a blender full of goodness that looks something like this. Now…BLEND BLEND BLEND!!

IMG_1726You’ve probably got enough smoothie in here to split into two or three glasses so get your bendy straws and enjoy!

Don’t judge.
