Twitter is, hands down, one of the most popular social networking services today, and businesses love it. With over 200 million active users posting an average of 400 million tweets a day, more and more companies are utilizing this real time social network to connect with customers and glean information about the latest trends related to their particular industry. From marketing your business and sharing company updates to engaging with customers and even tracking competitors, Twitter can help you grow your business in a variety of ways. Check out these three tips to build brand awareness and increase your engagement.
Tip 1: Use Hashtags
The #hashtag is an intrinsic component of online communication, categorizing any single word or group of words into a searchable link and allowing you to follow discussion topics related to these word(s). Hashtags are also used for big events (#superbowl), topics (#family) and “trending” tweets (#Christmas). If you are hosting an event, create and promote your own #hashtag to find out what others are saying (hint: what others are interested in)! For example, if your business offers a great space for kids parties, try searching #kidsparties to see what others are tweeting about on that topic.
Tip 2: Remember to Retweet!
Similar to a Facebook “Share,” a Twitter Retweet (RT) shares interesting tweets, fun information or links that were posted by other Twitter users. When you Retweet something, it’s shared with all of your followers. Conversely, when someone Retweets you, they share your tweet with all of their followers, which leads to great exposure for your company, new followers and more business! The best way to get Retweeted? Post engaging information, pictures, catchy phrases, company updates or anything else you believe your followers may find appealing.
Tip 3: The Power of the Twitter Search
Twitter offers an advanced search tool to help you discover what people are saying about your brand. Simply search your #CompanyName to see what people are tweeting (or retweeting!) about your business. This feature is great for collecting information on what your followers and customers want, and gives you the opportunity to connect with them by replying to their comments. You can also track your competitors to collect even more information.
Using these tips will lead to higher engagement, more followers and better customer service. Try a #variety of #hashtags, #tweets and RT’s, and #havefun with it!
