What is Small Business Saturday?
Small Business Saturday was created by American Express, first observed on November 27, 2010. It is a reaction to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which are rumored to encourage shopping at big box retail and e-commerce stores. Small Business Saturday is aimed at encouraging consumers to support small local businesses.
How can I get involved?
Local businesses can get involved by signing up with the American Express campaign. They offer small businesses marketing materials to get local community members in your door. Once you are signed up, you will be eligible for multiple benefits like the ones listed below:
Denise Pickett, president of American Express OPEN said, “Small Business Saturday has cemented itself as an important part of the holiday shopping season. Each year, small businesses around the country look to the day as a way to jumpstart their holiday sales.”
