Merchant Spotlight – Shabu Chic

In Seattle’s International District, tucked behind the famous Viet Wah market, is Seattle’s only dedicated Shabu Shabu restaurant. What’s Shabu Shabu? According to Wikipedia it’s “a Japanese dish featuring thinly sliced beef boiled in water.” Uhhh…that sounds booooooring for something that it actually rich, delicious, and even healthy!

shabuAt Shabu Chic you choose from three different yummy broths, choose your meat or veggies, and then you start cooking! They’ll bring your broth, turn on the burner, and then you swish (the term Shabu Shabu comes from the sound of all the swishing) your meats and veggies around in your broth until they’re cooked to your liking. You can then dip them in a variety of tasty sauces. It’s a little like sukiyaki but more savory.

Shabu Chic is an awesome choice for birthday parties, bachelorette parties, date nights and so much more because it’s an interactive experience. You’re not just sitting there eating the food that’s brought to you, you’re taking part in the preparation, talking and laughing with your table-mates. It’s fun time for everyone! You can book Shabu Chic’s dining area for a private party for up to 20 guests making it perfect for all your celebrations. Check out their website for their full menu and booking online!

Merchant Spotlight – Metropolitan Grill

Ask any Seattle-local where to get the best steak in town and the odds are darn near 100% that the answer is going to be Metropolitan Grill. A destination for throngs of business people doing power-lunches or date night couples having a beefily luxurious pre-symphony dinner, The Met is the only place to have your steak fire-finished at your table by white-coated waitstaff. And speaking of the waitstaff…they’re incredible. They know the menu inside out, they can recommend wines till the cows come home (but cows aren’t coming home, certainly not from this place), and they’ll make you feel a million bucks; they know this is a spendy meal and they treat you like royalty for it.

If you have a lunch meeting that needs to impress or a rehearsal dinner to wow your future in-laws then check out Metropolitan Grill’s Private Dining options. Choose from the private Vintage Room, the spacious upper and lower Boardroom, and the grand Chairman’s Room. Each of these private spaces can be booked via PlaceFull with a deposit that will count toward your food and beverage minimums on the day of your event.

When all is said and done, it’s obvious that Metropolitan Grill stands alone in the playing field of downtown Seattle’s luxury restaurants. Between the incredible wine selection, the attentive staff, the lush surroundings, and the best steaks this side of the Cascades, you’re in for a dining experience that you will remember.

Issaquah Salmon Hatchery and PlaceFull

Here, in the Northwest, we have a special relationship with salmon. It’s on the state quarter, darn near every single restaurant menu, and bringing our local streams and estuaries to life when they return every year to spawn. Which is why a place like The Issaquah Salmon Hatchery is so, very, important.  Continue reading

Breaks for Moms in the Seattle Area

suchagoodideaYou’re a mom. And that is just the greatest job ever, right? It’s the very definition of bliss. Your kid never goes rigid when you try to put him in shopping cart at the grocery store, she sits quietly in your lap while you get a mani/pedi, and they go to bed without a fuss leaving you plenty of time to yourself to catch up on your reading, have a glass of wine, and take a relaxing bubble bath.

Yeah. In opposite land.

In real life you haven’t had a shower in three days, the last time you had a manicure was a week before you gave birth, and grocery shopping is like descending to the 5th level of hell. You know what you need? A break. You need someone to watch your kiddos (maybe even FREE child care) while you get your hair cut or do some grocery shopping or even just a chance to watch a movie with your kiddo (in an actual movie theatre) where you won’t get the evil-eye when junior starts rolling around in the aisles.

PlaceFull’s got your back, mama.
